Summary
The Database Administrator is responsible for monitoring, testing, and troubleshooting databases  and will assist management in driving database operational procedures for the FINEOS Cloud

The Database Administrator will work closely with our customer’s support, Project, Technical resources, FINEOS Operations and Cloud Engineers, and various other internal FINEOS departments to provide 24x7 support.

This role generally works a standard business week (NA business hours), but occasional weekend work / out of hours may be required.

 

Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned.)  
•    Design, develop, and test effective, maintainable, high quality SQL code in a timely fashion
•    Interpret results using a variety of techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation via statistical analysis to complex data mining independently
•    Rapidly analyze data sets from different sources; identifies data relationships, business rules, data characteristics and business process gaps
•    Perform regular maintenance requests in the environments as part of continuous delivery of new functionality and services
•    Install updates and patches as needed to ensure the health and integrity of our infrastructure and systems (environments)
•    Collaborate with the global support team to resolve complex customer issues that span application, network, and cloud infrastructure
•    Monitor the effect of changes and responds to alerts; including investigation for root cause
•    Work directly with customers, operations and engineering to research, troubleshoot, and resolve performance issues in a timely manner
•    Provide input on automation, and a systematic approach to database configuration, deployment and maintenance and recovery as well as continuing to improve the performance and reliability of the overall service
•    Work closely with internal FINEOS teams on new features and their impact on the database operations

 

Education and/or Experience     
•    College degree or equivalent work experience
•    2+ plus years of experience in Oracle database administration, engineering, or development
•    Experience investigating security issues, performance and / or complex operational issues on AWS and Linux using/ analyzing system and logs where appropriate
•    AWS Associate-level Certification (Solutions Architect, Developer, or SysOps Administrator) preferred
•    Experience with Continuous Integration and Delivery. Jenkins automation experience is a plus 
•    Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) technologies: Cloud Formation, EC2, S3, EMR, ECS, ECR, CodeDeploy, Autoscale, Cloudwatch
•    Experience in data migrations; understanding the data from legacy systems and transferring to new systems

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
•    Familiarity with core concepts of security incident response, e.g., the typical phases of response, vulnerabilities vs threats vs actors, Indicators of Compromise (IoCs), etc.
•    Familiarity & understanding of Unix/Linux operating systems and command line with ability to administer common Unix services (HTTPD, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, LDAP)
•    Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy 
•    Ability to work independently to remove roadblocks and keep development on track
•    Understanding of infrastructure as code and other DevOps concepts
•    Detail-oriented approach particularly in terms of documentation and procedures
•    Strong planning, scheduling, and organization skills

 

Technical Skills
•    Proficient in Structured Query Language (SQL), Oracle, data mining, and pattern recognition in large datasets, including ability to develop customized queries to successfully complete tasks
•    Experience in automation
•    Knowledge of networking fundamentals, and common Internet protocols, in-depth knowledge of the TCP/IP Stack DNS, SMTP and ability to troubleshoot issues

 

Language Skills
•    Ability to speak the English language proficiently, both verbally and in writing

 

Travel Requirements
•    This position may require up to 10% travel based on business need
